Rockymount's SplitRail is a lightweight, expandable-platform hitch rack that carries up to four bicycles. Made of 6063 aluminum and chromoly steel, the SplitRail weighs a category-leading 44 pounds and features adjustable trays to allow optimal fit between loaded bikes.
- The SplitRail uses a ratcheting arm to secure bikes without contacting their frames. The system is fast and easy to use and works with almost any bike–including those with non-traditional frames. It accommodates bikes with wheel diameters between 20 and 29 inches, and tire widths of up to 3.2 inches.
- The SplitRail's bike trays can be laterally offset by four inches to avoid seat and handlebar interference, and it comes with an integrated cable lock system that allows each bike to be locked individually. A locking hitch pin (included) keeps the rack itself secured to the vehicle. It also features a wall mount for convenient home storage.
- The 2-inch receiver SplitRail carries two bikes/120 pounds standard, and expands with single bike add-on trays (sold separately) to handle three or four bikes. Its maximum weight capacity when carrying four bikes is 160 pounds, or 40 pounds per bike.
- The 1.25-inch receiver SplitRail carries a maximum of two bikes weighing up to 120 pounds, or 60 pounds per bike.

I had the rockymounts split rail 2 bike rack with a single add-on for a total of 3 bikes. I love the concept of this design, but it needs modifications. I would NOT recommend this hitch rack due to safety concerns. With a little redesign, this could be a great rack. It was installed on my 2015 CRV with a Draw-Tite class III hitch receiver. The bikes we carry are: Men's Commencal mountain bike (size medium, 30 lbs), Women's Specialized Jynx Elite mountain bike (size small, 25 pounds), and a Boy's Trek bike (24" kids, 20 pounds). THE WELD BROKE (connecting the platform to the tube that goes into the hitch) and the bikes fell off while I was driving. I have photos. Thankfully it happen when I was driving slow in a smooth flat parking lot with nobody behind me. If this had happened on a road or the highway, my bikes would have been destroyed and I would have caused major accidents behind me (with serious injury/death to others). Me and my kids were left stranded 3 hours from home (our first trip away from home with the rack!). The only way to get home with our bikes was to go to a local bike shop and buy a Thule rack at a much higher cost and have the guys there help me get it put together and on my car. Rockymounts needs to get rid of the weld and instead use bolts to connect them like other reputable manufacturers. My new Thule rack is connected with bolts and feels much more secure. I was offered a replacement Rockymounts rack, but I declined. I am seeking a refund instead. I would not put anyone else on the road in jeopardy by putting another one of these racks on my car. It isn't worth the risk.
